Crude weaker in Asia after Caixin PMI2

Crude prices held weaker on Tuesday as a survey on manufacturing in China came in weaker than expected and investors looked ahead to U.S. inventories on crude and refined products to set the tone.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange crude futures for June delivery fell 0.20% to $48.74 a barrel, while on London’s Intercontinental Exchange, Brent eased 0.14% to $51.45 a barrel.

GBPUSD: Eyes on UK Manufacturing PMI

GBP/USD snapped a three-day winning streak on May Day as it dropped to 1.2882 after UK PM Theresa May threatened to walk away from the EU without a deal. The weak US personal spending and inflation numbers failed to lift the pair as the odds of the June Fed rate hike ticked higher to 71% from 67%.

The USD/JPY pair prolonged its recent recovery move and traded with a mild positive bias for the fourth consecutive session, albeit continued with its struggle to break through the 112.00 handle.

The prevalent positive sentiment surrounding Asian equity markets, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 gaining around 0.70%, was seen weighing on the Japanese Yen’s safe-haven appeal and helped the pair to build on to its recent gains. EURUSD Technical Analysis:

The overall bias still remains neutral, but due to the fact, that the pair is currently near to the lower boundary of the trading range between 1.0830-1.0950. An upmove is to be expected, towards 1.0950 peak. A break through the latter will challenge 1.1000 area. Key support lies at 1.0830.
